PROJECT / EXPLORE / RETURN
Work takes shape through reselection, editing and discussion. FocalRoom is designed around that cycle, with room for different directions.
Collect themes, visual references and what you want to express. Research & Moodboard is planned.
Import, compare and keep images. Judge technical quality separately from an image’s role in the work.
Find rhythm in the existing sequence view. Free-form canvas juxtaposition, grouping and annotation are in development.
Invite an editor to review on the web. Version round-trips with Lightroom Classic and Capture One are still in development.
Photobooks, exhibitions and print delivery are part of the roadmap, not a complete production feature today.
01 / A MORE CONSIDERED EDIT
A quiet transition may hold a whole sequence together. Compare, arrange and reconsider, giving the work room to emerge.
See the full frame, compare pairs, rate and record your reasons. Familiar shortcuts keep the edit moving.
Reorder images to find rhythm and narrative. Save versions, compare choices and retrace your edit.
“Keep this frame. There's room
for the person and setting to breathe.”
Keep reasoned choices as evidence. Inspect and correct preference hypotheses so suggestions better fit your intent.
02 / TRY A SMALL EDIT
Choose the images you'd keep, or inspect an example draft.
Then decide which suggestions belong in your work.
No photos kept yet. Go back to All and choose your first frame.
Your selection will take shape here.
03 / AN ASSISTANT, WITH BOUNDARIES
Tell the Agent what this series should express.
Get a selection and sequence draft with reasons.
Accept individual ideas, or follow your own judgment.
“Make a quiet coastal series.
Choose 12 frames, with space and traces of people.”
Check the frames and reasons, compare the order, then decide what to accept.
AI suggestions start with your goal. Check the analysis scope and available allowance before starting.
Place this after the coastal view,
as if moving from a distant view into someone's day.
04 / ANOTHER PAIR OF EYES
Share previews and leave comments tied to a location.
Editors suggest a sequence; the author reviews each change.
Keep a record of discussion and approve formal changes.
A LITTLE MORE PEACE OF MIND
Know what is kept, what is shared,
and what your next approval will change.
Import creates references and preview caches. Originals stay in place; manual editing needs no cloud model.
Visual tasks send derived previews with separate consent. Sharing access and AI image consent are independent.
Drafts stay separate from formal work. Approval, versions and evidence make changes traceable.
Not as a complete release. Research boards are planned; canvas, external editing round-trips, shared boards and photobooks are being developed and validated. The current download and website demo do not represent the complete workflow.
Photographers developing long-term projects, editing bodies of work or reviewing with an editor. Art photographers, photobook authors, photo editors and studios can start with selection and sequencing; complete publishing production is still in development.
No. FocalRoom focuses on selection, visual editing, sequencing and review. Keep using your preferred tools for developing, color and retouching. Automatic version round-trips are still in development.
Yes. Desktop import, keep/reject, ratings, comparison, sequencing, versions and export work independently.
Import photos, then give AI a creative goal. Real analysis depends on service availability, account allowance and task scope. Drafts change the selection only when accepted. The website demo uses preset suggestions.
A shared preview package creates an independent copy, leaving the local project editable. A formal migration makes the desktop snapshot read-only; further review happens on the web. Neither uploads original files.
The current 1.0.4 download supports Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 11 or later. Intel Macs and other desktop platforms have not completed release validation. Web review runs in a browser. The current package does not include the full v3 roadmap.
No. It uses AI-generated sample images bundled with the page and has no personal-photo upload. Suggestions are preset; selections and order live in page memory and reset on refresh.
